'Personal Shopper', 'Certain Women' will screen at the Zurich Film Festival + Olivier Assayas will be honored

The French filmmaker will be honored with Zurich's 'A Tribute to...' award for his life's work.
Acclaimed French director Olivier Assayas will be honored at this year's Zurich Film Festival with a retrospective of his life's work.

The 61-year-old filmmaker, whose latest drama, Personal Shopper, stars Kristen Stewart and Lars Eidinger, will also receive Zurich's "A Tribute to..." award on Oct. 1 in Zurich.

One of the most distinctive, and successful, of France's arthouse directors, Assayas has established himself as a cross-over auteur with a diverse series of films and the Emmy-nominated (and Golden Globe-winning) television series Carlos.

His cinematic output of more than a dozen features ranges in style and theme from 2002's Demonlover, a thriller set in the world of 3D manga, to Clouds of Sils Maria (2014), a reflection on acting and aging starring Juliette Binoche and Kristen Stewart, to Personal Shopper, a ghost story set in the Parisian fashion underworld.

“His tremendously rich body of work spanning a wide variety of genres has left a lasting impression on modern European cinema,” said Zurich festival directors Nadja Schildknecht and Karl Spoerri.

'Personal Shopper' will close the 12th Zurich Film Festival on Oct. 2 at 8.30pm.
'Certain Women' will also screen at the festival.
